The partial thromboplastin time (PTT) is a test that assesses the clot-forming ability of the blood. It measures the time in seconds before a clot forms by adding certain reagents to plasma, the liquid portion of blood, in a test tube. TTP provides information on the function and amount of certain proteins called clotting factors, which are essential to the blood clotting process.
