Biomarkers or cardiac markers are substances that are released into the blood when there is damage to the heart. These biomarkers are essential for diagnosing acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and cardiac ischaemia, conditions that involve insufficient blood flow to the heart. Measurement of these biomarkers is also useful for assessing the risk of developing these diseases and for monitoring during treatment of these cardiovascular disorders.
